Is the Bible the Word of God?
To answer this question we must first understand Who God is.
We know that the TRUE God is Jesus Christ Himself. If you have any doubts about this, I suggest you read my post Who is God?
If we know that Jesus Christ is God and that He speaks the TRUTH, then the words of the Bible MUST be the Words of God Himself. To demonstrate the truth of the Bible even further, let’s look at the SUPERNATURAL design of the Bible.
The number 7 is one of the most significant numbers in the Bible because it represents God’s seal and Divine perfection.
Consider the following…
- God completed His creation in seven days as written in the book of Genesis.
- In the Book of Revelation, there are seven churches, seven spirits, seven stars, seven seals, seven trumpets, seven dooms, seven new things, seven personages. The mystery of God is completed in the seventh vial of the seventh trumpet of the seventh seal.
- In the Book of Exodus, the candlestick in the Holy Place of the Tabernacle had seven branches.
- There are seven parables in the gospel of Matthew.
- The first verse in the Bible ‘In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth’ contains more than 30 different combinations of 7. In addition, this verse has 7 Hebrew words with a total of 28 letters which is a multiple of 7 (7 x 4). The three nouns ‘God’, ‘heaven’ and ‘earth’ have a total numerical value of 777, which is a multiple of 7.
- There are 21 Old Testament writers whose names are in the Bible (7 x 3), and the numerical values of each of their names is also divisible by 7.
- David’s name occurs in the Bible 1134 times, which is a multiple of 7 (7 x 162).
The list above is only a small sample of the many occurrences of the number of 7 in the Bible.
What is the probability that all this occurred by chance?

Another way we know that the Bible is the word of God is because in the Bible, God foretells events many years before they occur. Who is able to do this except God Who is outside of time and space?
The Crucifixion of the Lord is predicted in the Old Testament many years before it occurred. It is written in Isaiah 53:5, ‘But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed.’
God states clearly that He is the One Who makes the end of all things known from the very beginning as we read:
Remember this, keep it in mind,
take it to heart, you rebels.
Remember the former things, those of long ago;
I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me.
I make known the end from the beginning,
from ancient times, what is still to come.
I say, ‘My purpose will stand,
and I will do all that I please.’
(Isaiah 46:8-10)

This is what the Lord says — Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty:
I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.
Who then is like Me? Let him proclaim it.
Let him declare and lay out before Me what has happened since I established my ancient people,
and what is yet to come—yes, let them foretell what will come.
(Isaiah 44:6-7)

This is what the Lord says — your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb:
I am the Lord, the Maker of all things,
who stretches out the heavens,
who spreads out the earth by Myself,
who foils the signs of false prophets and makes fools of diviners,
who overthrows the learning of the wise and turns it into nonsense,
who carries out the words of His servants and fulfills the predictions of his messengers,
who says of Jerusalem, ‘It shall be inhabited,’ of the towns of Judah, ‘They shall be rebuilt,’
and of their ruins, ‘I will restore them.’
(Isaiah 44:24-26)

Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own
interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets,
though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
(2 Peter 1:20-21)

The supernatural design of the Bible is unquestionable. The occurrences of the multiples of the number seven throughout its writings could NOT have been designed even by most advanced computers. In fact, it would have taken many computers running for millions of years to yield this intricate numerical design. This numerical complexity is clearly the seal of the Holy Spirit of God Who confirms the Truth of His Word to us!
The truth is precious and this truth is in the Bible. Therefore, we must pay careful attention to read it and to do what it says every day of our lives! Our eternity depends on it!
